INNOVATIVE FACILITATION

when people can see the whole system, they can shape what happens next.

Complex organisational questions are rarely resolved by presenting more information. People need thoughtfully designed opportunities to explore different perspectives, make ideas visible and develop shared understanding.

Create Connection designs and facilitates strategic conversations, workshops and hands-on experiences that help groups think together and move towards meaningful action.

WHY FACILITATION MATTERS

some questions need more than a meeting.

When the work is complex, conventional discussion can favour the quickest voices, leave important assumptions unspoken and produce agreement without genuine ownership.

Good facilitation creates a different kind of space. It gives people a clear purpose, an inclusive process and meaningful ways to contribute. Different perspectives become visible, connections emerge and the group can build something that no individual could have developed alone.

  • see more clearly

Make complex ideas, relationships and tensions easier to understand.

  • think together

Bring different experiences and perspectives into the conversation.

  • move forward

Turn shared insight into decisions, commitments and practical action.

A five-stage facilitation process: a question is framed, the group explores it, people share what they see, connections are made across perspectives, and the group agrees how to act.

  1. Question

Frame the question that genuinely matters to the group.

  2. Explore

Everyone works with the question in a way that suits how they think.

  3. Share

Each perspective is made visible to the whole group.

  4. Connect

Patterns, tensions and relationships between perspectives emerge.

  5. Act

Shared understanding becomes practical, owned next steps.

WHERE WE CAN WORK TOGETHER

facilitation for the conversations that matter.

Strategy and direction

creating shared clarity.

Facilitated strategy and vision work helps people examine their context, explore possibilities and develop a direction they understand and can support.

This may include

  • Purpose, strategy and vision
  • Organisational priorities
  • Scenario exploration
  • Translating strategy into action

Culture and ways of working

turning intention into practice.

Participative culture work helps organisations define what their values and ambitions mean in everyday behaviour, relationships and decisions.

This may include

  • Culture and values development
  • Observable behaviours
  • Leadership practices
  • Practical rituals, prompts and tools

Teams and collective intelligence

helping teams think better together.

Structured facilitation helps teams surface different perspectives, strengthen relationships and make better use of the knowledge and experience already in the room.

This may include

  • Team purpose and alignment
  • Trust and psychological safety
  • Communication and collaboration
  • Shared decision-making

Change and complex conversations

making space for what needs to be discussed.

Change creates uncertainty, competing needs and questions that are not always easy to express. Carefully facilitated conversations help people make sense of what is happening and contribute to what comes next.

This may include

  • Organisational change and engagement
  • Collective sense-making
  • Difficult conversations
  • Building ownership of change

THINKING WITH OUR HANDS

making complex ideas tangible.

The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology uses structured model-building, storytelling and reflection to help participants explore ideas, make connections and develop shared understanding.

Susan is trained in facilitating and designing workshops with the methodology. It is one option within her broader facilitation practice and is used only when appropriate to the purpose and participants.

THE APPROACH

designed around the question, the people and the context.

  1. discover

Clarify the organisational context, the participants, the question and the change the session needs to support.

  2. design

Create an inclusive process, selecting the most useful combination of conversation, reflection, visualisation, creative activity and hands-on methods.

  3. facilitate

Hold a purposeful space in which people can participate, listen, challenge, connect ideas and develop shared understanding.

  4. activate

Capture the most important insights, decisions and commitments so that the work continues after the session.

No single methodology is used for every challenge. Each experience is designed around what the group needs to understand, create or decide.

Where it serves the purpose, Susan may use carefully designed scenarios, playful constraints or collaborative challenges to help groups surface assumptions, consider different choices and engage with complex questions.

HUMAN-CENTRED AND EVIDENCE-INFORMED

facilitation that understands how people participate and learn.

Susan’s approach brings together professional coaching, organisational experience, specialist neurodiversity expertise and continuing study in psychology and neuroscience. This informs careful attention to participation, psychological safety, cognitive load and different ways of processing information, without reducing complex human behaviour to simplistic explanations.

WAYS TO ENGAGE

from a focused workshop to a wider process.

focused session

A facilitated session designed around one clearly defined question or decision.

half-day or full-day workshop

A deeper exploration involving individual thinking, group sense-making and practical action.

retreat or leadership gathering

A carefully designed experience for strategic reflection, alignment and relationship-building.

multi-session process

A connected series of workshops supporting culture, strategy, team development or organisational change over time.

Every engagement begins with a discovery conversation. A tailored proposal is then developed around the purpose, participants and desired outcomes.
